Badge of a Participant of a Wintering at the Ernst Krenkel Arctic Scientific Research Observatory on the Franz Joseph Land (Archipelago), circa 1980s.
Aluminum, "cold" enamels, lacquer; measures 43.8 x 33.9 mm. Riveted two-piece construction: the polar bear is a separate superimposed part. There is an inscription "Arctic" at the top and "Participant of Wintering at the ANIO (named after) E.T. Krenkel" near the bottom. A raised maker mark to the reverse. This very large and impressive badge is of far better quality than a typical Soviet civilian award of the period.
Excellent condition. The enamel and finish are pristine. The rivets are tight.
Please note, penny in our photo is for size reference.
