DOSAAF Honorary Badge for Organizations, early silver-plated version, circa 1960s.

In silver-plated brass and high-quality enamels. Massive award, measuring 73.0 mm in width and weighing 52.0 g not including the screw plate. Raised Moscow Mint logo "MMD" to the reverse. An extremely well-made and impressive piece.

Outstanding, excellent condition. The enamel is essentially perfect: free of chips, flaking, scratches or other noticeable wear, and shows a beautiful luster. The silver plating is practically pristine and exhibits a very attractive dark patina. The screw post is full length, approx. 15 mm, and includes the original screw plate (same as used on

Originally established in 1958, a few months after the DOSAAF Honorary Badge for individuals, this much larger award was designed to attach to the organization's banner. In 1976, it was slightly redesigned to have gilt rather than silver finish. Based on currently available information, including the Russian-language Badges of the Defense Society by D. Kuznetsov (C. 1983, DOSAAF Publishing House), there were fewer than 1,000 of the early-style "banner" Honorary Badges ever made (this number reportedly includes some 250 of the very first version that had holes for sewing it to the banner rather than the screw back attachment).
