Mechanical Wristwatch Luch 2209, by Minsk Factory, circa 1980s.

In nickel-plated brass case 35 mm in diameter with stainless-steel caseback and crown. At only 8 mm thick, this is one of the thinnest wristwatches the Soviet watch-making industry ever produced. It uses the 2209 movement with 23 jewels. Mechanical manual windup. The 12-hour dial is black with white Arabic numerals and stainless-steel hands. Central seconds hand is gold-plated. The signature is in Russian, suggesting that the watch was designated for the domestic markets. The crystal is acrylic.

In excellent condition both in terms of appearance and precision of movement. Our 24-h

In excellent condition both in terms of appearance and precision of movement. Our 24-hour test showed +2 minutes. Judging by the markings on the inside of the caseback, the watch was professionally serviced in September 2020. Another service will hopefully fix the time deviation, if desired. The nickel plating of the case is intact and shows very little wear. The crystal appears to be original, is mildly scuffed and scratched but without any opaque spots.

The only timepiece-manufacturing factory in Belarus, the Minsk Watch Factory was ordered into existence by a decree of the Council of Ministers of Belorussian SSR in September 1953 in response to the fast-growing demand in timepieces on the domestic market. The first wristwatches came off the assembly line in 1955, the main brand being Luch ("Ray"). Among its current production lines are men's and women's wristwatches with mechanical and quartz movement, clocks for automobiles, alarm clocks, and limited-edition timepieces commemorating significant national dates and events.
