The model for this medal was created by the die cutter A.A. Novichkov. In 1977, 4050 pieces were struck at the Moscow Mint. The medal was awarded to senior KGB officers and VIP retirees.

The medal is in excellent condition, completely free of nicks, edge knocks, or visible scratches. Attractive age patina to bronze on both sides with some lighter areas, mostly at the raised points of the artwork and lettering, that are not detractive. There are no blemishes or oxidation spots.

The Issue Case is made of rubberized cardboard in royal blue, traditional color of Soviet KGB, and has a fitted nest for the medal lined in blue velvet. (Interestingly, we've seen the same medal issued to a foreigner which came with a different kind of box, red rather than blue.) The case is in excellent condition. It is perfectly sound and shows almost no wear. Both the interior and exterior are very clean.
