Ivan Shagin (Иван Михайлович Шагин, 1904 - 1982), was a renowned Soviet photographer whose works chronicled the achievements of the Soviet state in industry, agriculture, sports, leisure, etc. since 1933. Just two years later, recognized for his professional and artistic talent, Shagin was hired by the Komsomolskaya Pravda, the central newspaper of Lenin's Young Communist League. During WW2, Shagin worked as a war correspondent from its first to its last day. His wartime photos are true masterpieces of professionalism and artistry. It is not surprising that Shagin was trusted with the very delicate task of creating an official photo portrait of the aging Stalin.
