Set of Five Documents Issued to Dzintars Linis (Дзинтарс Янович Линис), a Latvian KGB Officer, 1979-89.

1.Military photo ID of a Reserve KGB Officer.

Measures 4" x 3", in green laminated hard cover, issued on 2 January 1980. Looking through the entries, we see that Linis joined the MGB of Latvian SSR in 1949, and was discharged to KGB Reserve in 1979 in the rank of KGB major (equal to Army rank of colonel). Linis was a graduate of the Kiev University Law School, and did not have any military formal education. The ID is in excellent condition, showing barely any wear to the cover. The internal pages are clean, all the handwritten entries and seals are perfectly legible.

2.Award Document for Armed Forces Veteran Medal.

Measures 3" x 4", in red laminated hard cover. The document is signed by the Chairman of the KGB of the Latvian SSR and dated 21 December 1979, although the Decree of the Chairman of the KGB of the USSR which bestowed the medal upon Comrade Linis is dated 30th December 1979. Apparently, clairvoyance was part of the skill set of Latvian KGB. In excellent, pristine condition, inside and out.

3.Photo ID of a KGB Consultant.

Well-made piece in leatherette-wrapped beveled hard cover with the State Emblem of the Latvian SSR and the word УДОСТОВЕРЕНИЕ ("certificate") in Russian on the front cover, in gold. The ID was valid until 31 December 1990, likely issued in 1989. People of extremely varied and sometimes exotic and rare professions consulted for the KGB but we may hope that Linis was called back to service in his capacity as a lawyer. In excellent condition, showing just a hint of storage wear to the cover.

4.Photo ID of a DRUZHINNIK Volunteer Police Support Unit Member.

Measures 4" x 3", in leatherette-wrapped hard cover, valid until 31 December 1986. In very good condition, showing mild soiling to the covers. Very clean inside, all the printed and handwritten verbiage, the seal and signature are clear and perfectly legible.

5.Photo ID of a member of the Car and Motorcycle Amateur Association of Latvian SSR.

Measures 4" x 2 ½", hard covers wrapped in textured red paper. The front cover features the logo of the Association and its name below, in Latvian. The ID has the rectangular stamp of the Riga cell of the Association and dated 1 September 1990. The seal of the association is partially superimposed on the photo. The inside page on the right shows the stamp certifying that the membership fee for 1990 was paid. The August 1991 declaration of Latvia's independence from the Soviet Union may explain that the 1990 stamp is the only one. In excellent condition, no significant wear inside and out.
