Pushkin Medal for Great Achievements in Proliferation of the Russian Language, circa late 1980s.

Brass, gilt; the medallion measures 39.6 mm in height incl. the eyelet, 34.5 mm in width. The total height with suspension is approx. 58 mm. The logo of the Moscow Mint, of the type used in the late 1980s, is next to the pin attachment on the reverse of the suspension. The obverse features Alexander Pushkin's portrait in high relief, and his facsimile signature. The inscription on the reverse reads "For Great Achievements in Proliferation of the Russian Language." The Pushkin Medal was instituted in 1977 on occasion of the tenth anniversary of МАПРЯЛ, to be conferred on Russian and foreign government officials, scientists, linguists and pedagogues who had made a significant contribution in proliferation of the Russian language, literature, and culture in foreign countries. The medal was first awarded at the IV Congress of МАПРЯЛ in Berlin in August of 1979. No more than ten medals are awarded annually.
