Located in Moscow on the Theatre Square, the Maly Theater is one of the oldest and most venerable Russian cultural institutions. Its name which means "Small" in Russian refers to the size of its original building as compared with the Bolshoi (i.e., "Large") Theater. From the time of its inception, the Maly Theatre that focused on drama plays was considered a counterpart of the famous Bolshoi that specialized in opera and ballet. This beautiful badge was probably issued to the actors and other employees of the theater who had worked there for a long time. A very interesting piece from the period of the "Khrushchev's Thaw" when many foreigners were for the first time allowed to visit Moscow and to see theater performances.
