Honorary Certificate and Title of Shock Worker to Pisarkov (Писарьков), a student of Soviet Law, 1932.
Single page 10" x 14". Very uncommon, featuring portraits of young Stalin and Molotov. Not only is it extremely uncommon to see anyone but Lenin next to Stalin on an award document. Much more unusual is that Molotov and Stalin are positioned on both sides of Lenin's portrait on even footing, which was little short of blasphemous at that time. The certificate features oversaturated industrialization-themed graphics which emphasize Stalin's industrialization plan for the first Five-Year-Plan. Two quotes, Lenin's and Stalin's, precede the text of the certificate, extolling the virtue of hard labor for the good of the state.
In very good to excellent condition, showing minor wear to the edges and corners. The central horizontal fold line has a small separation at the right edge, easily repairable with library tape on the verso.
The certificate was issued by the Moscow Institute of Soviet Law to Comrade Pisarkov, awarding him with the title of shock worker for "selfless participation and exhibited enthusiasm in socialist competition in raising labor productivity and improvement of the product quality." The award is sealed with the seal of the trade union local # 158 of the Moscow State Institute of Soviet Law at the People's Commissariat of Soviet Jurisprudence and is dated 30 December 1932.
Putting the award in the context of the Soviet Law in general, and the year 1932 in particular, Comrade Pisarkov must have distinguished himself in studying law enforcement of Stalin's atrocities accompanying the industrialization and collectivization during the First Five-Year Plan, and was ready to fulfill Stalin's plans for the future, justifying and enforcing the purges of the 1930s from the standpoint of Soviet jurisprudence. Or, possibly, as another NKVD officer ridding the young Soviet state of the "enemies of the people," that being his quality product.
