Boy with a Ball, statuette in Silumin, by Leningrad Metalworks Factory, circa 1960s.

Stands 8" tall, the plinth is 2" across, cast in solid Silumin. The figurine shows anatomical precision and fine details of the head characteristic of sculptors of the Leningrad Metalworks Factory, not commonly encountered in Silumin figurines. The back of the plinth has the factory's logo, ЛЗМ ("Ленинградский Завод Металлоизделий") inside a rectangular frame, and "Leningrad"

In excellent condition. There are no significant scratches, scuffs, dints or any other wear visible to the naked eye, just a few random tiny spots of oxidation, mostly on the back of the statuette.

The history of the Leningrad Metalworks Factory goes back to 1921 when a regional enterprise comprised of about a dozen local metalworks workshops and factories was formed and given the name ТРЕМАСС (TREMASS). In 1923, the enterprise was handed over to a Polish corporation on concession basis, part of the Soviet New Economic Policy (NEP) which permitted elements of capitalism to lift the country's economy up from the hard bottom it had hit after the nightmare of the Civil War and Military Communism. In 1931, the concession was revoked, and the factory was renamed the State Lantern Factory. Besides kerosene lamps and lanterns, the factory manufactured children's toys. After WW2, the toys production line expanded to include artistic casting, which continues to this day.
