Soldier's Letter Home from the Front, 26 October 1944.

Written on a special-issue military stationary formatted as a simplified postcard. This format was new for that time, approved in July 1944. The most glaring difference is the absence of any motivational artwork or slogans, not even the "Death to the Fascist Invaders!" which can be seen on every piece of earlier WW2 military stationary, Soviet Information Bureau daily communique issues, newspapers, etc. The obverse has just the printed address fields and the mark ВОИНСКОЕ бесплатно&#

The obverse has just the printed address fields and the mark ВОИНСКОЕ бесплатное ("MILITARY postage-free"). The address is entered in Russian, the country-wide language of communication, whereas the message on the verso is in Georgian. The black stamp on the right side of the obverse is that of the military censor.

In very good condition. The edges show minor wear: fraying and small rips not reaching anything of importance, as well as insignificant corner bumps. The text of the letter, written in pencil, is rather faded but still quite legible.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
