Temporary Photo ID of an Officer of the Political Deptartment, Voronezh Front, issued during the Battle of Stalingrad, dated 17 November 1942.

Single page 8 ¼" x 5 ½", front only. The ID was issued by the Political Department of the Voronezh Front to Captain Ignat Zhurbenko (Игнат Ефимович Журбенко), certifying that he served on active duty in the Red Army as a Personnel instructor. The ID is hand-signed by the Chief of the Political Department of the Voronezh Front Brigade Commissar S. Shatilov and bears the departmental seal.

In very good condition. The partial separations along the fold lines

In very good condition. The partial separations along the fold lines have been repaired and reinforced with library tape; all the parts of the ID are crisp, clear, and perfectly legible. Faint traces of a water stain along the right edge do not reach the text of Shatilov's signature.

November 17, 1942 was when the great battle was nearing the end of a bloody stalemate of attrition when neither the exhausted German troops nor the exhausted Soviet troops could make any decisive advances, and just continued to lose more and more men in that horrendous meat mincer.
