Russian Civil War Poster Celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of October Revolution, 1920.

Measures 19" x 27", printed on thin paper. Published by the Saratov Regional Polygraphy workshop. Circulation unknown.

In very good condition. The paper is thin and rather brittle, causing some fraying of the edges. Most of the rips have been repaired with library tape on the verso. The colors are vibrant and crisp, and so is the text of the inspirational verse under the artwork. The verse calls for the Comrades to triple their energy and greet the third anniversary of the October Revolution in the bloody battle with the dragon of imperialism, through temporary setbacks and failures to the shining kingdom of Labor.

The Red Horseman of the Revolution is trying to slay the Dragon of Imperialism while looking very much like Leon Trotsky. And even though he preferred the luxurious personal railroad carriage of the czar's minister of transportation to horses of any color, the henchmen of Trotsky's personal guard did wear red leather uniforms, complete with red leather Budyonovka helmets and red leather boots. Trotsky assembled this spetsnaz squad primarily from Latvians and Estonians. They never lacked in food, supplies, or personal comforts of any kind, which kept them loyal to Trotsky and eager to follow any order the author of permanent world revolution and Red Terror could think of. As our photo collage shows, Trotsky was seen, and even photographed, wearing a budyonovka helmet. Too bad we cannot prove it in color, but rumor goes that he did wear a red one.

Please note that the 1-ft. ruler in our last photo is for size reference.
