Includes high resolution photos of over 300 badges and many award documents. The subject of the book is Soviet military badges established and produced during the Patriotic War (June 1941 - May 1945). Finally, the first book that sheds light on this extremely popular field of collecting!

Of special interest are detailed descriptions and photos of a surprising number of variations of WW2 military proficiency series (such as Excellent Artillery Man, Excellent Machine-Gunner etc.) and production varieties of the WW2 Guards Badge.

Despite the title, the book actually goes well beyond the war era, covering post-war changes in the appearance of the badges. It also briefly touches on the badges of the Warsaw Pact countries and recent Russian military badges that are derived from the classic Soviet WW2 designs.

In addition to the Guards and the Proficiency series, the book covers the following badges highly sought by collectors: Submarine Commander, Naval Guard, and the four badges of Naval Air Force established during the war. The book draws on extensive archival research as well as the obviously impressive collecting experience of its author. Very well researched and highly recommended!
