The photo was made in the photo studio of V. Pavlov, in the town of Shuya, Ivanovo Region in central Russia, about 200 miles north-east of Moscow. The inscription on the backing cardboard frame, under the photo, is the name of the photographer, and the name of the town, Shuya. The verso of the backing features advertising, typical for the period: some elegant graphics, the name of the photographer and address of the studio, and below in small print, the usual assurances that the negatives were kept on file, and photos could be enlarged to the desired size.

In very good to excellent condition. Tilting the photo to reflect a bright light reveals a few scuffs and hair-thin scratches to the emulsion, however they are all but invisible when looking at the photo at a normal viewing angle. The verso shows traces of old glue and some water stains towards the bottom but, being on the verso, this is rather irrelevant.

Overall, this is a very nice period piece that would add a warm personal touch to any collection of Imperial Russian artifacts.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
