The main portion consists of four separate parts: the black-and-white shield with the abbreviated name of the club, the Imperial crown, and the plaque with the date and type of competition are separate parts superimposed on the Art Nouveau-style cartouche with green enameled background. The Cyrillic abbreviation С.П.Б. / К.Л.С. stands for "St. Petersburg Circle of Sports Enthusiasts" (Санкт-Петербургский Кружок Любителей Спорта). The jetton has a relatively uncommon attachment designed to wear it inserted into a breast pocket of the jacket - the style of attachment often mistaken for a bookmark - as opposed to a conventional key fob or pin attachment.

Excellent condition. The enamel, including the black enamel covering the inscription in the lower part of the badge, is beautifully preserved and exhibits a nice luster; there are only a few tiny scuffs in the upper part that are practically unnoticeable to the naked eye, no significant wear of any kind. The raised details of the crown and scrolls are perfect; some of the original gilt finish is clearly visible in the recesses of the crown. The attachment is fully functional.

Founded in 1888, the St. Petersburg Sports "Circle" (i.e. club) organized athletic training and competitions in track, skiing, biking and various team sports. In the early years of XX Century, it became especially popular for its soccer team. It was arguably the largest and most respected sports organization of pre-revolutionary Russia.
