The front cover features the title of the newspaper embossed in the upper left-hand corner, done in its easily recognizable font, and the words "Honorary Certificate" embossed in the middle. The certificate document is in folder format, with quotes from Lenin and Stalin on the importance of newspaper as a propaganda medium. Inside, the document is lavishly decorated with a lithographic print on the second page, depicting Lenin and Stalin in the middle of a friendly discussion. The first page is capped with the actual header of the Izvestiya newspaper, citing its jubilee issue # 10,000 of 9 July 1949. The header incorporates a color image of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, with which the newspaper had just been awarded for "successful work in upbringing the workers in the spirit of ideas of Lenin-Stalin and in the cause of mobilizing the Soviet people on building a socialist society".
The second page bears the handwritten name of the awardee, S. Shchetinin, and states that he is awarded with this honorary certificate for his successful work in the field of newsprint, and on occasion of participating in the release of the 10,000th issue of the newspaper.
The insert with the list of other Izvestiya employees, awarded with orders and medals on the same occasion, also cites S. Shchetinin as a recipient of the Order of the Badge of Honor.
The certificate is in excellent condition. The hard cover is clean, showing just minute scuffs at the corners and the head and foot of the spine. The certificate is also clean, showing minimal storage wear, mostly just slight discoloration along the edges due to exposure to light. The insert with the list of awardees shows mild discoloration and fraying along the right edge.
