Unit Citation to Captain Nikolai Kashcheyev (Николай Васильевич Кащеев) of a Combat Engineers Unit, for liberation of Bratislava, 1945.

Unit citation issued by Stalin's decree # 330 of 4 April 1945. Single page measuring approx. 9 ¼" x 12 ¼". Features uncommon artwork in gold, depicting a river crossing assault. The citation is signed by the unit commander Maj. Tonkiy and bears the unit's seal.

In very good to excellent condition. The paper is very slightly wrinkled and shows mild creasing at the corners and some soiling along the bottom edge, not reaching the graphics. All the decorative graphics, typographic and handwritten text, signature and seal are in perfect condition.

Captain Nikolaj Kashcheyev was a highly decorated combat engineer and sapper, awarded with the Order of the Red Star in April 1943 for the unimaginable volume of mine clearing work he did in Stalingrad after the great battle was over. In September 1943 he was awarded with the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd cl. for building a pontoon bridge and then a permanent bridge across a river near Mirgorod, Ukraine. And finally, in May 1945 he was awarded with the Order of the Patriotic War 1st cl. for his road and bridge construction work facilitating the march of his mechanized corps across Slovakia onto Belgrade.
