Porcelain Tea Cup & Saucer, by Polonnoe Factory, 1987 - 1990s.

The cup stands approx. 3 ¾" tall, 3" wide at the lip, 2" wide at the foot. The saucer is a little over 6" across. Apple-themed artwork in bright yellow, white, gray, silver and gold stands out beautifully against a bright-red background. Both the cup and the saucer are rimmed with a band of gilt. The barrel-like shape of the cup is rather unusual for tea service. Maker marked on the bottom. This version of the mark of the Polonnoe Porcelain Factory was in use from 1987 through the 1990s (fig. # 577 in Volume One of Marks on Soviet Porcelain, Faience, and Majolica, 1917-1991 by N

In very good to excellent condition. The pair is very clean and shows no significant scuffs, scratches or chips. The gilt is somewhat worn off but that is to be expected from a set used daily. This is clearly a "daily" pair for family time in the kitchen, or when watching TV or, better yet, when reading a nice book.

Polonnoe ("Polonne" in Ukrainian) is a city in the Khmelnitsky region in western Ukraine. The history of the city dates back to the year 998. The porcelain manufacturing is somewhat younger, dating back only to the 1880s. Economic difficulties of early post-Soviet years forced the factory into bankruptcy in 2011. Their legacy is alive thanks to the Khmelnitsky Regional Museum.

Please note that the teaspoon in our last photo is for size reference only.
