Many such Chinese tapestries were exported to the Soviet Union before the relationship between the two communist countries turned sour during the 60s. A famous German theoretician, Engels was always considered a part of the Communist "holy triad" of Marx-Lenin-Engels. He was however a somewhat lesser figure among the three and consequently, his portraits are less common than that of Marx or Lenin.
