The painting depicts a scene in a convalescent ward where a young nurse is reading aloud to a group of wounded soldiers. She is reading from The Pravda newspaper, the main news organ of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. "Pravda" means "truth" in Russian and was a finely honed weapon of indoctrination and propaganda that kept the minds of millions of Soviet citizens squeaky clean of independent thought for decades.

The color plate is in outstanding, excellent condition. No damage of any kind to the image whatsoever. The backing cardboard is in excellent condition as well, showing just minuscule corner bumps.

Vera Orlova (Вера Александровна Орлова, 1904-1993) was a talented Soviet painter and master of graphic arts, who has left a rich legacy of landscapes but, mostly, portraits capturing her models' personalities, traits of character and fleeting moods.
