Snow Queen, Linocut by Afanasyeva, Hand-Signed Artist Proof, illustration to Andersen's fairy tale, circa 1970s-90s.

Large format, measures approx. 16" x 19 ½". The image size is approx. 11 ½" x 15". This is a print from the original linocut, made by the artist and hand-signed by her. The handwritten signature is in the bottom right-hand corner under the image, in pencil. The artwork is an illustration to Hans Christian Andersen's world-famous fairy tale "The Show Queen", first published in 1845.

In very good condition. The image is very fine, showing just a few minor stains and foxing at the bottom right-hand corner. The paper around the image shows minor foxing and soiling, as well as a crease

In very good condition. The image is very fine, showing just a few minor stains and foxing at the bottom right-hand corner. The paper around the image shows minor foxing and soiling, as well as a crease at the upper left-hand corner and a tiny rip to the right edge. All of this wear is not too obtrusive. Some degree of such wear is to be expected in an original work handled by the artist. The verso shows mild foxing and contours of the imagery that soaked through the paper.

Overall, a fine piece of original art that would be a tasteful decoration on the wall of a child's room or an equally tasteful charming addition to an art collection.

Please note that the pen in our photo is for size reference only.

Although the artist's signature does not have the first name or initials, we believe that this is the work of Yelena Afanasyeva (Елена Александровна Афанасьева, 1900-1998), Russian and Soviet master of graphic arts, illustrator, portraitist, member of the USSR Artists Union.
