Membership Badge of the Lokomotiv ("Locomotive") Sports Club of Railroad Employees, circa late 1940s - 1950s.

Brass, enamels; 15.6 mm tall x 17.9 mm wide. Extremely well-made, beautifully detailed piece.

In excellent condition. The enamel and details of the steam engine locomotive are perfect. The silver finish on the reverse is pristine. The screw post is full length, approx. 8.5 mm, and although slightly bent, remains sound and fully functional. Comes with original screw plate maker-marked "DSO Trud Factory" (interestingly, although the factory belonged to a different sports club, it evidently manufactured badges for the Lokomotiv and possibly some other DSOs.)

The Lokomotiv sports club (abbreviated as DSO or "volunteer society" as such clubs were called in the Soviet Union) was established in 1935. This was the main spots organization of the Trade Union of Railroad Workers. Initially, there were also several other sports clubs for workers of regional railroads as well as railroad building factories, but all of them eventually combined into the larger DSO Lokomotiv. The badge offered here is the early, Stalin-era version of its membership badge.
