Major Kunikov died heroically in the fighting at Malaya Zemlya and Novorossiysk - both places assuming national importance decades later when it was decided that the Great Patriotic War passages in Leonid Brezhnev's biography needed serious beefing up. Novorossiysk's designation as a Hero City in 1973 undoubtedly had more to do with the fact that Brezhnev was then leader of the Soviet Union than that the fate of the nation had actually hinged upon the outcome of the fighting there in 1943.

25 7/8" x 21 3/8". Very good to excellent condition. There are a few holes down the left hand side where the poster was probably bound together with others in the series - the holes are small and do not detract. There are also one or two light folds that appear to have been flattened out a long time ago.

The poster has been shrink wrapped on to what appears to be acid free cardboard backing. Note that when we ship it, we will send it "sandwiched" between two sturdy pieces of cardboard of appropriate side, carefully sealed on the edges to prevent any water damage. The poster will be ready for display when you receive it!

The vast majority of these broadsheets were undoubtedly regularly dispatched to the naval bases and larger ships of the Red Navy, posted for a week or two and then taken down and either thrown away or cut into sections (like regular newspapers were during the war) and used for practical purposes like making cigarettes!
