Three are wearing identical diamond shaped graduation badges from an engineering academy or school. Excellent condition. The photo shows the sort of age one expects to see in a picture that was probably produced under less than optimum conditions. However, the most important area of the photo (with the officers) is perfectly clear.
An interesting study of pre-war Red Army uniforms and an unusual example of a photograph showing three officers wearing apparently identical 1920s-1930s graduation badges.
