Sized 4 ¼" by 6 ¼". Kuxareva Studio, city location unclear. Lower to mid-level official wears civil servant's uniform with two stars on each collar to indicate his rank. Wears Order of St. Stanislaus 4th Class on a somewhat unusually folded ribbon and a 1855 pattern small sword. Unusual method of production has a matte that is part of the negative and is printed at the same time as the image. Reverse blank except for evidence of a hinge across the top.
Very good condition. Although faded, details are still clear.

Probably a coincidence, but the attempt at a walrus moustache
makes this civil servant look vaguely like a young Otto von
Bismarck. Considering how many men mimicked Napoleon III's
goatee, perhaps von Bismarck made bushy moustaches
fashionable?
