Badge of an Honored Worker of Seafaring Merchant Fleet, Type 1, #4459, circa early 1940s.

Silver-plated brass, enamels; 42.4 mm tall, 32.8 mm wide. Early wartime version featuring deep counter-relief to the reverse and engraved serial number. Beautifully made piece.

In excellent condition. The enamel is intact showing none of the usual chips or flaking. Raised details of the ship, anchor and wreath are nice and crisp, having only light wear. Some of the original silver finish is still visible in the recessed areas. The screw post measures 12 mm long, has not been shortened, and although slightly bent near its base, remains sound and fully functional. O

Established in 1939, this badge is the highest Soviet wartime award to Merchant Marine sailors and administrators. Given the serial number of this particular piece, it is highly probable that it was issued in the middle of WW2 to a participant of Lend-Lease convoys.
