Unknown pilot Hero of the Soviet Union, Size 11 1/2 x 15.

He is also decorated with 3 Orders of Lenin and 2 Red Banners and what looks like Medal for the Defense of Leningrad. Circa 1943 - 44 portrait, not yet showing any of the victory or "liberation" campaign medals. Nice depiction of his Air Force visor cap. By skilled artist working in charcoal.

While his name is not presently known, it should be researchable: he is wearing the cross of the Order of the British Empire, probably in the degree of "Member". Very few Soviet aces received British decorations in WW 2...
