This is the second, 1924- 25 version of the Northwestern ODVF badge featuring the letters "CCCP" (USSR) inside the red star. The obverse shows an imperial-style "Kokoshnik" silver hallmark (used only until 1926) on the upper portion of the sickle. The handle of the hammer has an "84" silver assay mark with the "Kokoshnik" and Greek character Alpha, a designation of the Leningrad (formerly Petrograd / St. Petersburg) assay inspection and Cyrillic maker mark "ФП" ("FP").

In excellent condition, absolutely extraordinary for any Soviet award from the mid-1920s and the very complex silver and enamel ODVF badge in particular.

Unlike most other surviving original examples, the enamel is essentially perfect: both the red star and blue scroll are completely free of the usual chips, flaking or repairs; there are only a few microscopic contact marks that are completely invisible to the naked eye and not easy to find even with a 10x loupe. The enamel retains a magnificent luster throughout. The airplane and stylized hammer and sickle emblem are beautifully crisp and completely free of dings or scratches. The original connecting wires are in perfect order, and the parts of the badge are attached very firmly. There is a very attractive even patina to silver throughout. The screw post is full length, approx. 10 mm, and comes with the original screw plate in hallmarked silver. To summarize, the badge is in truly superb condition, literally impossible to upgrade.

The badge was awarded for donations or active participation in the Northwestern Chapter of the society which included Leningrad (formerly Petrograd) region.
