In very fine condition. The obverse has two tiny nicks to the edge of the 12 o'clock and 9 o'clock arms of the cross, and an accidental length of blue enamel baked onto the metal on the side of the 3 o'clock arm. Looking at the obverse, it can be noticed that the crown is very slightly askew, leaning a little to the right. The reverse shows very shallow flakes to the blue enamel of the outer wavy ring of the center medallion, not reaching the metal beneath. The original ribbon is slightly faded on the front side but very clean and free of any damage.

The Royal Order of the Lion was established by King Leopold II on 9 April 1891 for his private colony, the Congo Free State. In 1908, when Congo was annexed by Belgium, it was integrated as a national order of Belgium, awarded for distinguished service to the Congo and its sovereign. Dormant since 1962 following the independence of the Congo.
