The Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy of Latvian SSR was based on the model of the famous VDNKh Exhibition in Moscow. The former opened in the Mezaparks District of Riga in 1957, immediately after the VDNKh Pavilion formerly dedicated to Latvian SSR changed its profile to Soviet achievements in physics (The other "national" pavilions were repurposed at the same time from showcasing a specific Soviet republic to representing a branch of all-Union industry or science. The decision was a bureaucratic blunder as it deprived many of the purpose-built VDNKh buildings of their original purpose, put their architectural style at odds with their new contents, and surely made the exhibits far less "exotic" - and thus less interesting to the public.)
