Starting from the 70s, the DOSAAF Summer Spartakiada sports competitions coincided with the regular All-Union Spartakiadas. Unlike the latter however, the DOSAAF events encompassed competitions in "technical and applied military sports" e.g. sharpshoot

Unlike the latter however, the DOSAAF events encompassed competitions in "technical and applied military sports" e.g. sharpshooting, radio proficiency, motorcycle and car races etc. Like all major Soviet sports activities, DOSAAF Spartakiadas were supervised by the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, but they were mainly a DOSAAF responsibility and were run under the watchful eye of the communist party and VLKSM youth league.
