Anodized aluminum, "cold" enamels, lacquer. Very large piece, measuring 99.5 mm (nearly 4 inches) in height and 57.9 mm in width. Riveted two- piece construction: the star with anchor is a separate superimposed part.
In very fine to excellent condition. The enamels and gold finish are extremely well-preserved. The minor imperfections to the factory-applied dark grey finish on the anchor and white enamel appear to be factory flaws rather than a result of wear. The rivets are tight. The screw post is full length, over 16.5 mm measured from the reverse of the badge, and includes

The DOSAAF organization was formerly known as the OSOAVIAKhIM, which changed its name and charter in 1951. This "volunteer society" was essentially a massive military training program, and although it collected dues from its members (most of whom had no choice but to join), it was sponsored and tightly controlled by the state. The Badge for Active Work was established in 1952 as the highest award of the organization, essentially a medal for outstanding achievements. The late issue small badges to individuals are very common, but the large type badges to organizations and military units are quite scarce. This DOSAAF Banner Award Badge can be an impressive (and very inexpensive) centerpiece for the Soviet badge collection!
