The only timepiece-manufacturing factory in Belarus, the Minsk Watch Factory was ordered into existence by a decree of the Council of Ministers of Belorussian SSR in September 1953 in response to the fast-growing demand in timepieces on the domestic market. The first wristwatches came off the assembly line in 1955, the main brand being Luch ("Ray"). Among its current production lines are men's and women's wristwatches with mechanical and quartz movement, clocks for automobiles, alarm clocks, and limited-edition timepieces commemorating significant national dates and events.
