Very fine to excellent condition. The raised details are extremely crisp and show almost no wear; there are no nicks, noticeable scratches or other significant flaws of any kind. There is a very minimal pitting and dark patina throughout, while the original gold plating is still clearly visible in recessed areas on the Peter I's monogram, scrolls forming the outer border, and center star. The gilt finish is well- preserved on the reverse of the badge.

The wires attaching the St. George insignia are completely intact and tight. The screw post is of full length, over 13 mm, and although slightly bent, remains perfectly sound and functional. The wing nut is missing.

Any badges of the 13th Military Order Dragoon Regiment are exceedingly rare. Although the reference guide Regimental Badges of Imperial Russia by Viktor Kempf published in 2012 shows a photo of a badge for the lower ranks which is identical to the one offered here, the book states that not a single such badge has ever been offered for sale in any international auction. The Badges of Russia by Patrikeev and Boinovich shows only a photo of the officer's badge.
