This interesting piece is from the period when the Soviet Navy, still seemingly strong, was already starting to feel the effects of the USSR's economic decline. It would spiral down over the next few years, never to return to its Cold War glory. The number of active-duty sailors would soon be drastically reduced, and so would the number of daggers produced for the Soviet naval officers.

In outstanding, excellent condition - scarcely ever used or possibly an unissued example. The scabbard leather is literally perfect: free of any scuffs, scratches or even the typical indentations from storage, and retaining a beautiful healthy gloss. The varnish on the brass parts is bright and virtually pristine, having only some tiny amount of wear on the cross guard and a couple of minuscule scuffs elsewhere, none of it very noticeable. The grip has only a single tiny scratch, no chips, cracks, flaking or any other significant wear. The brilliant blade is essentially flawless, almost completely free of even the in-and-out wear. This piece is nearly impossible to upgrade; condition-wise, it is among the best Soviet daggers we've ever handled.
