Grand Officer Breast Star. Silver gilt, enamels, 73.2 mm in height, 74.3 mm in width, weighs 53.2 g. Hallmarked "900" on the pin. Maker marked on the reverse cartouche "GRAVANZOLA SUCC: RAVIOLO & GARDINO, ROMA." The center medallion features the motto of the order "Relinquo vos liberos ab utroque homine" in Latin ("I leave you free of both men") in gold on blue enamel.
In fine condition despite several chips to the enamels, most of them repaired. The blue enamel of the center medallion shows a chipped area reaching through to the metal, and several cracks next to it. A similar in nature but tiny chip to the green enamel of the top left oak leaf can be seen but is not too intrusive to the eye due to its small size. A few repairs to the green enamel of the wreaths can be guessed, albeit barely, by a slightly different tone of green color.
Grand Officer Neck Badge with Ribbon. Silver gilt, enamels, 85.0 mm in height incl. the cross on the crown, 52.6 mm in width, weighs 25.0 g incl. the jump ring. The center medallion on the obverse features a painted image of St. Marinus circled with words "San Marino Protettore." On the reverse, the San Marino coat of arms is encircled by the words "Merito Civile."
In very fine condition, showing only a small flake to the white enamel to the right roster of the 12 o'clock arm of the cross, not too obvious or detractive. There is no other wear or damage visible to the naked eye. The neck ribbon in moiré silk featuring four blue stripes on white background appears to be original and never worn.
The highest-ranking award of the Republic of San Marino, the Civil and Military Equestrian Order of Saint Marinus (original name: Ordine Equestre per il merito civile e militare San Marino protettore della repubblica), was instituted in 1859, to be awarded for outstanding civil or military services to the Republic of San Marino to people who are not citizens of the Republic of San Marino.
