Badge "To a Friend of DOBROKhIM", 1924 - 1925 issue.

Silver, enamel. Measures 30.7 mm in height (from the tip to the bottom of the bayonet), 34.6 mm in width; the flag portion is 18.6 x 32.9 mm. The badge weighs 11.4 g not including the screw plate. It is of riveted two-piece construction: the Red Army soldier wearing a trademark pointy Budyonovka cloth helmet and WWI style gas mask is a separate part attached by rivets to the "Poison Green" flag with a bayonet for a flagpole. Overall, an impressive piece of spectacular quality.

The reverse shows "84" silver hallmark with "Kokoshnik" and Greek character Alpha, a designation

In excellent condition, very uncommon for this award. The enamel is essentially perfect and shows a magnificent luster. There are a couple of minuscule contact marks but no chips, flaking, noticeable scratches or any other significant wear of any kind. The details of artwork are pristine and exceptionally crisp, showing none of the usual wear to the high points. There is a very attractive patina to silver throughout. The screw post is approximately 8.5 mm long; it was reduced by a few mm for convenience, but its remaining length is more than enough for proper functionality. The screw plate is of full length, approx. 10 mm. The screw plate is an old replacement which appears to be roughly of the period; it fits the screw perfectly.

DOBROKHIM is Russian abbreviation for "Society of Friends of Chemical Defense and Chemical Industry". Its purpose was to organize civil defense and prepare troops for chemical warfare. Later, it merged with several similar "volunteer clubs" such as Dobrolet and eventually became one massive OSOAVIAKhIM organization.
