In excellent condition. The fraying to the edges and corner bumps are negligibly small; the ink on the obverse is bright and crisp, the Moscow postal cancellation stamp on the verso is quite legible. Minor soiling and discoloration

Minor soiling and discoloration to both sides only adds to the perception of authenticity and age of the cover.

We can only guess what level of desperation could drive a Jewish woman to write a letter personally to Stalin in 1939. But we probably won't be very wrong to think that she was trying to plead with Stalin that her husband, father, son, or daughter (or all of them!) were not guilty of the crimes they had been accused of. The letter was sent via registered mail, so obviously, time and reliability of the letter being delivered were of the essence to her.
