The badge is in silver gilt, enamels, 48.5 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 43.4 mm in width. Suspended from a triangular ribbon. The reverse is silver, with the usual engraved characters meaning "order of merit decoration". Excellent condition.
The case of issue is 96.6 mm x 62.6 mm x 27.5 mm, in black lacquered wood. Inside, both the lid and the fitted pad for the badge are lined with purple silk. The Order of the Sacred Treasure was founded by Emperor Meiji's edict of 1 January 1888 to be bestowed upon persons who had rendered
distinguished service to the state. It was awarded to the military and civilians, and in May 1919 was extended to women.
