This is a hard-to-put-down book! Looking at the sketches and reading the comments helps to look at the delegates and events of the festival through the eyes of Soviet people, starving for joy, color, and diversity of the world on the other side of the Iron Curtain. It also provides a rare, and rather depressing, opportunity to compare the artists' impression of different peoples and their countries then and now, in today's political context.
