Electric Globe-Shaped Samovar by Gzhel Electric Insulator Factory, circa late 1970s.

In polished brass. Stands approx. 13 ½" to the top of the crown, 8" wide at the waist of the urn, the base is 5" square. Maximum capacity 3 L (0.8 US gallon). Electric specs: 220V, ~50Hz, 1KW. In very good condition. The brass polish has retained most of its original luster, and is mostly intact, except for a few spots on the base and faucet, not too intrusive to the eye. There is also an indentation in the jug near the right handle, with a bit of damage to the polish at the contact point. The knob on the tip of the valve handle is missing, however it can be rather easily replaced: the handles are black and it should nott be too hard to find a matching knob for the valve handle. There is no power cord.

The samovar stands out in the elegant simplicity of its globe-shaped urn, rather uncommon among Soviet-era samovars and much more scarce than the most common ribbed or smooth vase-shaped ones.

The Gzhel Electric Insulator Factory is part of the world-famous Gzhel Porcelain Factory. As a matter of fact, electric insulators were the first product of the Gzhel Porcelain Factory, opened in 1818 by Yakov Kuznetsov, the founder of the Kuznetsov Porcelain Empire. Much later, in early Soviet years, the "mundane" insulator factory became a separate entity, manufacturing mostly porcelain electric insulator but continuing artistic household and decorative porcelain production.

While this samovar appears to be in perfect working condition, we do not encourage its use for any purpose other than display, and make absolutely no warranties of its suitability or safety, even with appropriate electric adapter to the US voltage, amperage, and power cord connector.
