This 1970s statue captures the feral ruthless aspect of the man that is visible in all of his photographs. Portraits and statues of Dzerzhinsky were popular not only in the homes and offices of police and security workers but also with "true believers" - those who venerated as virtual saints anyone who worked shoulder to shoulder with Lenin. There was also strong interest in images of Dzerzhinsky in the Warsaw Pact countries where elite regiments of police, state security and paramilitary services were often named after him.
