Medal for Distinguished Service in Guarding USSR State Border, Variation 2, circa 1960s-70s.

In German silver (Neusilber alloy) with silver plating; measures 37.0 in height incl. eyelet, 32.0 mm in width; weighs 16.1 g without the suspension and connecting link.

In excellent condition. The details on both sides are pristine and exceptionally crisp. The medal shows practically no wear visible to the naked eye other than a few minuscule dings to the raised edge, mostly on the reverse. Besides that, there are just some microscopic contact marks that can be found only under a 10x magnification. There is attractive even patina on both sides.

Comes on an original early suspension in brass (even though the medal is Variation 2, the early brass suspensions were still in use in at least as late as the 1960s). The ribbon is old and very likely, original to the medal; it shows some fading and very minimal amount of soiling but is overall nicely preserved and very attractive. The connecting link likewise appears to be original; its ends are still joined with solder. Overall, a superb example with a lot of character.
