Award Banner to Best Nursery Staff, circa 1937-41.
In heavy two-layer silk with dark gold fringe on three sides. Measures approx. 60" x 42" excluding the fringe but including the 4"-wide flagpole sleeve. All the graphics and large text are elaborately embroidered. Only the phrase "Proletarians of all countries, unite" on the scrolls of the state emblem are painted.

The high quality of fabric, the color of the fringe, and the lavish style of embroidery are all typical for early WW2 but pre-Great Patriotic War period. We date this flag 1937-41 because it is highly improbable that a flag like that could be made after the Patriotic War started.
Among dozens of award banners we have encountered over the years, this is the first banner awarded to the best team of a pre-kindergarten nursery. Another unusual feature of this banner is Stalin's quote "Personnel decides everything!" - a famous phrase but not at all common for banners of that era.
In very good condition. Both sides show areas of very light soiling, barely noticeable. The side with the portraits has the number 6497 stitched by the embroiderer, and a small tear. We took a photo of it next to a quarter coin to give you an idea about its size.
The side with the state emblem shows more catches to the silk, a couple of which are open through to the other layer. The worst "offenders" are on our photos next to a quarter coin for size reference. All the points of wear are small and for the most part lose themselves in the large area of red shiny silk, further dwarfed by the large colorful embroidery.
