Measures 3 ½" x 2 ½". The pass authorizes access to the Kremlin through a specific gate upon presentation of the person's photo ID, and further access to the Presidium of the All-Army Conference of Secretaries of Komsomol Organizations which took place at the end of May 1984.

The pass was issued to Dmitry Yazov (Дмитрий Тимофеевич Язов), Colonel General at the time, Commander of the Central Asia Military District.

In excellent, mint condition. No wear of any kind visible to the naked eye.

General of the Army Dmitry Yazov was appointed Defense Minister suddenly in May 1987, when Mathias Rust's landing his rented Cessna near Red Square triggered retirement of the then Minister of Defense Marshal of the Soviet Union Sergey Sokolov.

In 1990, Mikhail Gorbachev promoted Yazov to Marshal of the Soviet Union because Yazov was the first and only Minister of Defense who was not a Marshal. That is, if we don't count Stalin who became Narkom of Defense without any military rank at all.

Yazov was a strong opponent of the political changes introduced by Gorbachev. In summer of 1991, he was one of the key participants of the failed coup against Gorbachev, an event that directly led to the disintegration of the Soviet Union later that year, coincidentally earning Yazov one more distinction of being the last Marshal of the Soviet Union.
