Bust of Stalin in bisque porcelain, modern Russian REPLICA of the 1937 model by Bogolyubov (LFZ). Made at Dmitrovo Porcelain Factory, Verbilki, maker marked, early 2000s.
In bisque porcelain, stands approx. 8 ½" tall, the plinth is 3" x 3". The plinth is in the shape of three tomes of works of Stalin's political teachers, Lenin and Marx, and of Stalin himself, on top. The back of the bust shows the name of the maker of this model, the famous LFZ sculptor Bogolyubov. However, the bottom of the plinth features the mark of the Dmitrovo Porcelain Factory. Or, perhaps we should use the name "Verbilki Porcelain", contemporary with the trademark logo which was in use from 1991 to 2012. The mark is partially rubbed off, possibly to sell the bust as "t

In excellent condition. The only wear visible to the naked eye is a couple of tiny dark contact points on the left shoulder and the left side of the head, and a little spot behind the left ear which looks like a production accident, and not post-production wear.
Even though this is a REPLICA, it was made at a top-notch porcelain factory, and replicates a famous work by a famous sculptor and model maker.
Veniamin Bogolyubov (Вениамин Яковлевич Боголюбов, 1895 - 1954), son of a major general in the Russian Imperial Army and graduate of the last class of the Imperial Naval Cadet Corps, took up sculpture in 1923 and received proper formal education in this art. From 1929, he began working in tandem with Vladimir Ingal. Their first major work was a larger-than-life statue of Sergo Ordzhonikidze, which earned them the Stalin Prize, 2nd class, in 1941. Their talent, success of their creations and the politically correct choice of subjects quickly led to the great privilege of authorization to create images of Lenin and Stalin.
Bogolyubov worked with other sculptors as well, sometimes together with Ingal, and sometimes without him, but most of their works were created together.
