Stalin's plaque, circa early 1930s.
In solid bronze, measuring 7" in diameter. High 3D relief artwork depicts Stalin in a slightly younger phase of his political career, wearing his plain worker's tunic, before his later canonized Generalissimo image. A very uncommon item of Stalinist iconography.
Excellent condition, showing normal age but no abuse. Heavy cast metal, not stamped, and hand finished. The reverse features a mounting peg with a round head. Peg is threaded and screwed into the reverse of the plaque. The inventory stamp on the reverse is barely legible. As far as we could make it out under a "black l

Excellent condition, showing normal age but no abuse. Heavy cast metal, not stamped, and hand finished. The reverse features a mounting peg with a round head. Peg is threaded and screwed into the reverse of the plaque. The inventory stamp on the reverse is barely legible. As far as we could make it out under a "black light", it says "ОХТКО Принято ____ 196? г". We did not find the meaning of the capitalized abbreviation, the rest being the underlined space for the date and month, followed by the year the plaque was accepted for storage. The last digit of the year is too faint to read but if dismantling this plaque was part of the de-Stalinization activity, it was probably early 1960s.
Its original purpose is unknown, but the size and quality indicate possible public use as part of a monument or an architectural decoration. A fine historical piece worthy of further research.
