Medal for the Capture of Vienna, Variation 1, circa 1945-1947.
In brass, 32.3 mm wide; weighs 16.5 g not including the suspension and connecting link.
In excellent condition. Both sides of the medallion are completely free of any wear visible to the naked eye; the raised details are perfect and extremely crisp, essentially pristine. There is a single faint blemish in the lower right segment of the obverse and a minimal amount of tarnish on the reverse, neither of which is really detractive; the toning to the brass is overall even, and a good amount of the original "gilt" mint luster is clearly visible in recessed areas on both sides.

Comes on an original WW2 period suspension device, a double-layer model is steel with self-locking pin. The perfectly preserved clean ribbon shows age, although it is more recent than the medal itself. Overall, a beautiful example of the Variation 1 Capture of Vienna Medal.
