The back is mostly clean, showing just minor storage wear.

Samarkand or Samarqand is a city in Uzbekistan famous for its architectural landmarks but even more famous as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Central Asia. With evidence of human activity in this area going back to the late Paleolithic Era, it was settled in 8th century BCE.

The lithograph does not provide any details about the artist but the style strongly suggests that it is the work of Aleksandr Sergeevich Alymov (Александр Сергеевич Алымов, 1942 - 1989), a renowned master of graphic arts despite not receiving any formal artistic education, member of the Artists' Union of the USSR. Some of his works are on exhibit in the Belgorod State Museum of Fine Arts.
